The St. George Village Museum is housed in a restored colonial-era worker's cottage that was originally part of the enslaved worker's village. This exhibit chronicles the 2,000 year history of Estate St. George from its first occupants to the development as a contemporary public garden. Here visitors will see a display of artifacts from the early Amerindian settlers that occupied the site from about 100 A.D. to 1,000 A.D. There are also displays of various items from the Danish colonial era when the property operated as a sugarcane plantation. Photographs and a brief video provide visitors with an idea of the daily lives of the people involved in cultivating and processing sugarcane into sugar. As sugar production declined cattle production took its place, and eventually in the early 1970's the St. George Village Botanical Garden was established. The Museum is open from 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday, and on weekend days when a cruise ship is in port.
