The mission of the St. George Village Botanical Library is to provide leadership in the collection, conservation, organization and dissemination of historical and research sources with the purpose of serving the historical, horticultural and botanical information needs of the St. George Village Botanical Garden membership, staff and, when appropriate, independent researchers.

Searching the SGVBG online library catalog (Library/Thing)

 

  1. Go to LibraryThing site: http://www.librarything.com

  2. At right side of page, just above the maroon “SIGN IN” button, in the “name” box enter “botanicalgardens” –one word with the “s” at the end.

  3. In the password box, enter “catalogstx”

  4. Click the maroon “SIGN IN” button

  5. On the “home” screen, you will see a heading for “Your Books” and “Recently added.”

  6. At the very top of the page, you will see the LibraryThing logo on the left, followed by the “Home” button, the “Your books” button.

  7. Clicking on the “Your books” button will give a listing of books in the SGVBG library with the following headings: LC Classification Author Title Date Summary Comments.

  8. You may browse our collection by clicking on any one of the headings to arrange that column in alphabetical order.

  9. In the top right are two search boxes:

    1. In the black bar at the top of the page is the “Search site” box. This will search all books on the entire LibraryThing site which will match, whether it’s in our library or not.

    2. Just below that box is the “Search your library” box which will match only with books in the SGVBG collections.

  10.     10.In the box below, “Search this site” next to the “Search” button, type in a search term. This may be an author’s last name, significant word in a title, a subject, the name of a donor, a publisher, etc. By pulling down the “Search” menu, or just entering a word, you can select a field to search: All fields, Titles/authors, Tags, Reviews, Comments, Subjects, Most fields, Advanced search….   11.     11.The list of “hits” will have the same headings as the original list in “7.” had.

  12.     12.The call number in the left hand column will show the book’s location on the shelf.
